These last few weeks have been very crazy leading up to christmas.
I've been so homesick!
I've tryed to keep myself busy but it doesn't always work out that way.
A couple days ago there was another cockroach this time in my room.. I was traped on my bed throwing shoes at it and screaming until my mom can and saved the day! It was funny.
Yesterday was the 24th and that's when most brazilans celebrate christmas. It was a really great day until they started opening presents and being like a big family.. It remined me so much of home. and made me miss it so much. I was crying like a baby and wanted more than anything to be alone and invisible. I did how ever get a brazilian BIKINI! :D i love it. But later that night before bed i was alone and had to much time to think and ended up crying myself to sleep.
Today (the 25th of december) my amazing canadian family woke up at 6 so they could skype with me and open presents. I was because i didn't get the presents they sent me in the mail yet. Who knows if i'll ever even get them, But it was nice to see and pertend i was apart of my old family again. I really miss them and My sister is countting the days until my return. 193 more days.
After this i gave some presents to my host family and started crying more because i missed my real family. The rest of the day was like this crying on and off. Any little thing that reminded me of home would set me off on another tearfull rage.
anyways Christmas this year was good. But one of the hardest days of my life. To me christmas is a time to eat lots and spend with your family. I was with a new family and it was very different than what i was used too, but all in all i'm glad i made it threw. I made it past this i can make it past anything. It only goes up from here.

MEU DEUS!
Oh my goodness!
That thing was huge and sooooo very scary..
I went in to the bathroom to brushmy teeth before bed. Well there was this HUGE bug im so scared. i ran and got my shoes then i went back and it was gone so i brushed my teeth then i looked down and almost peed my pants! there that stupid thing was almost on my foot. I was so scared i almost screamed but remebered it's 1 in the morning and everyone is sleeping but still i had a mini heart attack, then i tryed to step on it but it was fast and i was too scared to hear it crunch. So i ran away to my room and shut the doors hopeing it wont come under the doors. I was so scared i ran on too my bed and havent left since.. I want to wake up my dad so he will kill it. I need to pee but i'm too scared to go back to the bathroom.. It's a really scary thing IT WAS HUGE!
This sounds so dumb a cockroach is controling my life! like seriously.. what am i going to do about this! ahhh.... help me.
I want to be in the cold where there is no such thing as a cockroach..

tenho seldades!
well so much has happened.
I went surfing in the big waves! It was so amazing! i was so scared. but i ended up catching a couple good waves.
I went to a very cute french cafe. It was so much fun because i went there with French exchange students.
I had to change family. This was very hard for me because i love my first family. It was an emotional day for me. I was nervous to meet my new family. I was scared, I was extremly sad. Now 2 weeks later i look back at that and I laugh at how scared i was of my new family. I love them they are great. But i miss my first family dearly so i like to visit with them. Also i miss very much my canadian family.
I have had the worst day of my exchange so far and it wasn't good. I was so homesick and i wanted more than anything to have my mom to hug. I miss that. I miss fighting with my sister and brother. I miss getting yelled at. Isn't that weird how could i miss this?

2 months 3 weeks and 3 days and counting...
well...
I've been going to surfing class. I've been to class around 4 times and I once rented a board with my friends. it was so much fun i caught my own waves and didnt need the instructor's help :D I've gotten so much better than before because before i could hardly stand up now i'm standing up all the time and i don't fall so much..
In the past few weeks i've been feeling so weird. i've been changing so much and it wasn't always for the good. I had well still have crazy mood swings and i'm always tired and sometimes i'm mad at the world. I really thought i was going crazy then i thought well maybe this is just a faze. But I was so glad when talking with other exchange students they are going threw the same type of things. It in exchange student terms is refered to as culture shock. When I applyed to be an exchange student I always thought oh yeah I'm not afraid of culture shock but i really had no idea what it was or what to expect. So when i started experiancing it i though i wass crazy. Goodthing i recived an email telling me about it and i had some of the signs and i was so glad i found out whats going on.
There are times when i just get really depressed and miss home so much and wonder what the heck im doing here. There are times i just sit in my room alone and cry for canada and my room there. But then i think what am i doing? i'm in brasil having the time of my life how is it possible that im so sad?
It's so good i know that when I'm having a bad day that tomorrow will be better. I try to think positve and not focaus on whats not going my way or else I get discurged.
I have beeen improving on my portuguese little by little. Although i think it could be better i'm proud of my self for learning this much. Going to a new country and think your just learning the language is crazy you learn so much more. you need to know the rules and what polite and whats not what's common for people to do and say and whats rude. You learn a whole new culture it's so amazing.
At first coming to brasil i thought it was so much like Canada. now i wonder how i ever could have thought that. They are so different! but I love them both.
I get to be the luckiest exchange student in the world to be living here i n floripa. I go to the beach all the time I get to meet so many people from all over the world becasue this is such a touistic place. today i went to the beach (got too much sun so nowim burnt) but i heard so many different languages being spoken. it's really neat.
It's a small world.

let the good times roll
I know it's been more than a week, but posting on a blog started out as really fun. now it's kind of boring. but i promised my mom i would keep it up so she could stay in the loop as much as possible.
So the life of an exchange student is pretty great! I love it here. Not missing home too much. sure i have my days. Not always good days but for the most part they are. I can't be happy everyday right? well as of now i'm happy and it's great here. I dont want to go home.
I was really happy this week to get to finally talk with my best friend from Canada DAYNA! I miss my friends it was really hard starting in a new place with no one you knew. no friends although i do have friends here now at first it was a bit scarry. So talking with dayna was very comforting.
One day i woke up feeling so weird. I don't really know how to explain it but it felt like i don't know my place. I didn't know where i was but it didn't feel like i shouldnt be here. It also didnt feel like i should be in Canada. WEIRD. But that's gone and this is starting to feel normal.
I just got the chance to start a surfing class. It was so much fun. Much harder than it looks by the way. I never did end up standing up for more than 3 seconds. But it was fun. Can't wait to show off when i get home :D
The weekends in brasil are the best part i think. I normally hang out with my exchange friends which is so much fun.
I got to go to balneario camboriu with Iliana (my mexican friend) and her family. It was so neat we went on the cable cars and on a rollacoster. I ate shrip by the beach. And i liked the shrim. these ones didnt have the head still on thank goodness.
I also was asking the waiter for the internet password but he understood me wrong and though i said whats the recipe to what im eating it was so funny, He got this other guy to come and tell me and i was like ummm okay but whats the password?? then when i was leaving the first waiter asked if i understood and everything and i couldnt help but laugh and iliana's host dad said yes thank you i think she'll make it at home every night. ahahah!
I tryed oster. It wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. but just the thought of what i was eating made me not enjoy it. Atleast now i can say i tryed it..
I'm still not sure of my next host family which i will be moving to in 2 weeks! I'm sad to be moving! I love my family they are really great. Also today might have been the last day that i got to spend with my host parents still aas part of their family, because they are taking a trip to the USA.
I think i wont be posting as much only when something worth telling happenes so i wont bore you too much :D

PANTANAL AND BONITO!!
So last you heard from me i was about to leave to pantanal and bonito??
Well it started like this.
I went to the beach and to lunch with my friends thinking i had lots of time before my bus. Turns out i was five hours off.. On the way home from the beach i get a call from lea and darja who was also taking the trip and we were on the same bus to cascaval (were we would meet up with all the exchange students... anyways i get the call and they are asking me where i am? i say on the way home from the beach why? they say the bus just left and i was so confused. I thought it was a joke for about 5 minutes. but turns out they were seriouse. So i get off the phone with them and keep my cool well try to.. and i make the scarriest call of my life to my host dad and tell him i missed my bus. He told me to get home and make sure i have everything ready. I got home just before he did then he was looking up times for buses to get me to cascaval in time theere were none so he told me he would have to drive me 3 hours to catch my bus.. We left right away and ended up only having to drive 2 hours and we caught the bus i was so lucky i have a good family here. I'm so stupid for looking at the wrong ticket,, last time i'll ever do that!
but i got the bus and i have an amazing week.
day one:
Bus, bus and more bus!!! Our bus also got a flat tire!!
Day too:
Sun tanning (little burn) And more bus,
Day 3:
And so it began. Meeting everyone and 2 seconds later forgeting names. then we had a breffing of all the rules and put in to activity groups. I did walking first. it was hot and boring! then when we were done our activity everyone went swiming!
It was so beautiful in the morning and night. there were aligators (MY FAVORITE!) and birds, but we swam in a pool. not in the pond.
At night we got to go safriing to see aligators but the tractor was too nosie so we didnt see much.. but it was still fun.
Day 4:
I did horseback riding and fishing for prahanas. I was so scared for both.
Horses are so scarie but now i love them, and i could have done it all day. but i sure felt it the next day!there was this wild horse that wouldnt leave our group alone so we had to turn around and go the other way. The fishing was so neat! i caught 4 prahanas! they were scarry. but cute. if thats possible.
At night we had a big BBQ because it was our last night in Pantanal.
Day 5:
Our last activity was safriing. which sounds better than it was. we just drove 30 minutes on a wagon then stoped and walked a while.. but i seen the big McCaws blue and red ones!! so beautiful!!
Then we left right after lunch and the rest of the day was spent on the bus.
Day 6:
we started our time in bonito with snokeling! it was so amazing the water was so cold and clear. I'm so glad my camer takes pictures underwater! i took so many!
We had free time in bonito at night to look around at the shops and stuff.
Day 7:
We went to the waterfalls in the morning and got to swim in them and it was so much fun!
But i got boredshort rash so it hurt so much to walk.. but it went away the next day :D
In the afternoon we went rafting. It was so much fun. but i was disapointed that we only went down 3 little rapids. I did see a aniconda! A big one.. then we went swiming in the water after.. :D and we all made it out alive! YAY!!
we had water fights with all the boats we pasted and we finished in first started in last!! YAY!!! INTERCOMPIZZAS!
Day 8:
This day it was raining alot and we should have whent to the blue lagoon caves but it rained too much so we went to some other boring cave. it was neat but i was so tired and not intertusted at the time. Then It was our last night together so we had a big talent show and a big party and dance!
It was so much fun! oh and i was voted to have had the most things. i brought all my clothes that i had in brasil.
Day 9:
VERY SAD DAY! i had to say goodbye to some of my cloest friends. I know i've only known them for such a short time but we bonded so much and i really hope to see them again.
Day 10:
My bus was 2 hours late arriving home.

I am unsure of what to call this :D
This week i have been trying to catch up on my sleep on thursday that worked out pretty well considering i slept all the way through my alarm.. I woke up at 11:30 to find out i missed the whole day of school.. Atleast i felt much better! then friday i almost sslept in again because my alarm isn't working so well.
Friday night i went to El Divion. It was so empty.. it was quite boring..
Now it's saturday and I leave for my trip to pantanal and bonito I'm soo excited!! I cant wait to tell you all about it. AHH
Also i get to hang out with my mexican exchange friends today. :D

Sleep PLEASE!!!
Oi, this week has been one of the best weeks in Brasil.
I didn't have school on monday or tuesday. So while you canadians were enjoying a nice turkey dinner I was enjoying one of the beautifulest beachs in the world.. I went to the beach with my exchange friends. We went to Joaquina beach. The sand was so soft. We took many pictures and met lots of neat people. It was a windy day or we would have went sandboarding too. My friends Iliana (mexicana), Andrea (mexicana) e, Lea (german) all slept over so at night we went to lagoa. It was nice. we had so much fun, I tryed konepizza. It's pizza in a cone it looks like ice cream. Then the next morning I made some CANADIAN pancakes. I don't like pancakes so they weren't that good, but my friends said they liked them :) School on wensday was so boring. No surprise.. It always is. but now i'm starting to understand more and more. I still can't speak very well but it's much easyer to understand. One thursday and friday At school we had the "olympics" I didn't go on friday because i was so tired. But thrusday it was good. :)
I went to a club on hip hop night. SO MUCH FUN! I stayed all night. But i only got 3 hours of sleep because the next day i had octoberfest. That was even more amazing! There was lots of german music and it was a really great party. I enjoyed it. But I was really tired the whole time. And that night i only got 5 hours of sleep. So right now i'm Very tired.

Live like theres no tomorrow
So i didn't go for a run. Yet. But i did go for a walk does that count?
Well I've been so busy this week. I went to the mall on Thursday with Iliana and Andrea, So much fun,, We met some bonitinhos.. It was funn.. But iwas a little late getting home because i got on the wrong bus. It wasmy first time at that mall and i wasn't 100% sure on how to get home. But i learned to ask the driver BEFORE you get on the bus.
My portuguese is getting soo much better! I had my first conversation with Sebastine It was so funny were were talking about drake and Josh (the t.v show) and he kept calling it drake and jorge. and i asked him what one he likes better he told me drake and asked me the same thing. I said Drake too. He asked me why so i said because he is Gatinho. That means small cat. But it also means cute. So i believe i confused him.. That was the end of our conversation. AHAHA
I can have conversations with people but, I don't say much. I can almost follow conversations but they need to be slow and i need to really listen and pay attention.
I went to my first club. It was so much fun. I enjoyed it very much. But it was really crowed and hot. But i love to dance so it was great.
I love being 16. I feel so powerful! :D
At school I wrote a test of many subjects and got 14 out of 40. I was so proud of myself. I didn't even get the worst mark :D
Well I've been so busy this week. I went to the mall on Thursday with Iliana and Andrea, So much fun,, We met some bonitinhos.. It was funn.. But iwas a little late getting home because i got on the wrong bus. It wasmy first time at that mall and i wasn't 100% sure on how to get home. But i learned to ask the driver BEFORE you get on the bus.
My portuguese is getting soo much better! I had my first conversation with Sebastine It was so funny were were talking about drake and Josh (the t.v show) and he kept calling it drake and jorge. and i asked him what one he likes better he told me drake and asked me the same thing. I said Drake too. He asked me why so i said because he is Gatinho. That means small cat. But it also means cute. So i believe i confused him.. That was the end of our conversation. AHAHA
I can have conversations with people but, I don't say much. I can almost follow conversations but they need to be slow and i need to really listen and pay attention.
I went to my first club. It was so much fun. I enjoyed it very much. But it was really crowed and hot. But i love to dance so it was great.
I love being 16. I feel so powerful! :D
At school I wrote a test of many subjects and got 14 out of 40. I was so proud of myself. I didn't even get the worst mark :D

feliz aniversario :D
So on Friday night i planed on going to a mustash party.. *Don't ask*
but Arina and I both fell asleep while watching t.v :P Euro trip i believe..
Well on saturday we dicied to go to the mall. We were going to watch a movie at the cinima (love. pray. eat) but saddly it was sold out. :( so we looked around all the stores it was funn.. I baught two sweaters. We were home by ten. When we got home i was soo tired even though i didn't do anything the nighth before. But Arina asked if i wanted to go with her to lagoa. Hearing all the exchange students after their exchanges say things like you can always sleep later and never turn anything down, I agreed to go. SO GLAD I DID!! it was soo much fun. There was so much to see and do. I ate at subway.. Not the same as canada but it'll do. The man there was kind of mean. Then we just went around lagoa looking and walking.
On sunday i got up early no idea how i managed that. My host family took me out to celebrate my birthday on monday. We went sandboarding. Which let me tell you soo much fun. But i think is much harder than snowboarding. I fell a lot and i pulled almost every muscle in my body.

then we went to the top of the montain that looks out over lagoa.. It was soo neat you could see so far and so much. Then we went to a resturant where i ate CANADIAN soup.. It didn't taste good at all.. I don't think it was canadian there was nothing canadian about it..
On my brithday i woke up and got to eat waffles :) I was so excited right there it was my best birthday ever! then i was almost late for school :S but i ran so i made it in time. After a long day of school iliana came over and we ate brigdairo and cake.. Not just one cake but TWO cakes! :D soo good. It w\s the best SWEET 16 EVER!! :D
Today i went to the post office all by myself. It was easy. I understood what the lady was saying... kind of. I think they were asking me about beer and if i liked. I was just kind of like huh? But my letters got sent to my family back in Canada.
SO things just keep getting better and better. I love it here and am loving it more and more each and everyday.
My portuguese isn't too good but i'm trying my best. I will stop all englsih. I keep saying that. And i keep saying i will join the gym.
I think i love food too much. The rotary 30 wasn't a lie. It happens. So i should start running but i'm always too lazy. or tired. boo.. Everyday i just think ohh i'll run tomorrow or the next day and i never just do it. but it's hot out right now. I'm in shorts :) and early walking i was sweating from the heat. i have no idea how i will live here in the summer. i hope they dont get any record breaking heat days..

party all night.
last week was great.. I will be here one month on my birthday. October 4th. I really don't want my birthday too come not because i'll be older but because I want time to freez so i have time to do and try everything there is too try in brasil. I do want my birthday to come because i want to be able to say I've made it through my first month. And i will be old enough to go to clubs. I'm excited to try them out.
I learned so much this past week.
-I don't relly know english. (8.5 out of 10 on english exam)

3 weeks. Holy cow.. this can't be happening.
So i've been here for 3 weeks. it's crazy. I kave no idea how the time flys!
I just got back from a meeting with all the exchange students in my district. Ohmigod. So much fun! I believe i made life long friends. they are so much fun. I learned about the trips and really want to do the amizon and the panatal and bonito. They look so amazing!! ahh.. i really need to get going with my portuguese. From now on i only speak portuguese with my host family and my school friends.
I did my presentation. I wish i was more prepared but i was proud that i did it. It was really bad but i learned from it.
I am loving the weekends here in brasil. so much fun. I hang with my friends from school. Who are amazing by the way. They teach me so much about everything and includ me which is good. :D
I went to a brasilian wedding. It was so beautiful. and so much fun I danced the hole night. But i'm so tired now.
Guarana is amaziing! soo good the tast is like nothing i've ever had before.

2 weeks and wishing time would slow down already.
So today it's been two weeks in brasil so far. The time feels like it's flying by. Well for the most part anyways. It feels weird to be here. I still wake up wondering where i am and how i got here. It all feels like a dream but when the day stars going it feels normal and like it should be. I love the people here they make my stay 1000000000000000 times better!!
I would like to tell everyone that has made this possible my biggest thanks! (muito obrigada!)
It's really a life changer.
My portuguese is getting better little by little. I can say apple and how much and i can say i don't speak portuguese which is really helpful when people ask you things (which for some odd reason seems to happen a lot).
The other day i also took the bus by my self.. it was easy nothing went wrong. I took the bus home after my portuguese class. Where i met another exchange student. He is from sweden.
At my school in lagoa there is a new kid. he's newer than me and not in my class. One of my friends from my class and i deside we would go talk to him. I was really happy to find out he knows english. And he knows a little about Canada :D i think i made a new friend.
Well things here have started to feel more and more like home. (mom your house will always be home and i will always count on you no matter what). I think i'm starting to settle in a bit more.
I've learned so much living her. Like bring something to do during class or you will be extremly bored! no joke. when you don't understand the teachers (other thank when they talk about jellyfish :D) it sucks..
well i should get going.

Living life to the fullest.
Oii
Today i've been at school for one week and i've been in Brasil one and a half weeks.
I love it here still.. I haven't gotten homesick yet. Being here has changed me in so many ways already. I've become more confedent. I don't care as much as too what people think of me and I've grown up so fast. I'm much more indepentent. I can't depend on my mommy anymore:(...
I love school. never thought that would come out of my mouth. but it has and it's so true.. I never know what the teacher is saying but that doesn't matter because i make friends in school and i talk with them during class.. (still in english) but they are always teaching my portuguese so it's good.
Today i asked the teacher if i could go get water, i was so proud of myself.. I forget how to say it now. ahahah.. and just the other day I asked a chaseir how much the deritos were. It was neat to know i could do it! but he didn't understand me when i said deritos so Arina translated better. But still! :D
I had my second portuguese class and it turned out really well.. Much better than the first. i understood so much more. i also met another exchange student but she
isn't from rotary.. But she lives near me so we might meet up sometime.
My friends from school are planing on taking out sometime Can't wait! i want to know what it is they do for fun.
English class today was so BORING!! even in that class i never know whats happening... the teacher doesn't like me because i talk the whole class.. But today he was wrong! I swear!! he said the sentance should be : we should have drunk wine... But i think it should havve been: we should have drank wine.. I wasn't the only one in the class that thought this so i told him and we had this big disagreement but i just let it go in the end.
I'm sick with a cold and i hate it! But i think it was my fault from leaving my window open.. ahaha that'll teach me! i hope i get better soon.
Did i tell you i baught my first piece of clothing the other day? It's a sweater! I love it so much!! but the clothers here are SOOO much more caro (expensive)... like no joke 30 canadian dollars for a sweater that would be 20 dollars at the most in canada.. but my sweater was well worth it! :D

one week almost.. :D
So i've been here one week tomorrow and i love it here. I seen the beach (so amazing!) and yesterday i went downtown :D (so busy).
I started school on wensday. I wear a uniform but it's just a sweater and a shirt but i dont have the shirt yet :P I like school i learn so much portuguese there. but i never know whats going on. there is a girl in my class that i have sat with every day because she helps me. She knows english so she lets me know whats going on. It all started on the first day when my portugiese teacher told me to be carful. everyone laughed when she told them in portuguese what she was trying to say. She was trying to tell me to make myself comfortable. Nicole was the one to tell me what she ment. ever since then she's been my best friend here. My first day i had english class. I got in troble because i was talking with Nicole.. it was funny.. Not many people talked to me on my first day. My second day was much better i met more people and class was better.. Here in Brasil the students stay in the same classroom for the whole school day and only the teachers switch.
Yestday i had my first portuguese lesson at the university. I met an exchanger from France. :D
The class over all was extremly difficult! the teacher mostly talked in portuguese because everyone in the class already knows so much, because i started half way throw the class. she gave me work sheets to do but i had them done in 2 hours. (i did them during school.. and i got my friends to help me out.
I really do love it here but i think it just started to hit me that i'm really doing this for a whole year! oh my gosh.. this is going to be so hard. But i know i can do it. right now im picturing a little cartoon in my head thats runing a race singing I KNOW I CAN! I KNOW I CAN! hahhaha this makes me laugh throw my tears. I was crying but i have no idea why.. I'm not sad. or atleast i don't think i am.. i have so many mixed emotions. I don't know whats going on! I'm still not homesick although there are things i miss.
This week Arina took me on a city bus for the first time it was so awesome. I was a little scared at first but the next few times it was so easy.. Soon i will have to take a bus by myself.
I had a mcdonalds ice cream the other day.. when i seen the mcdonals i laughed so hard!
The food here is so different but i love it! I don't think i'm eating as much as i did when i was in canada. i think it's because i eat a big meal at lunch and that does me over until i need a tiny supper. Sometimes im not even hungry for supper. Sometimes im a little dizzy but it passes fast.
Last night i had my first HOT shower. all the other times it was FREZZING COLD!! so there is only one water temperature in brasil. cold or umm.. cold! but when i felt this hot water i didn't ask questions i jumped right in. (not really more like steped) I love it so much! i stayed under the water for a while because it was cold outside. it gets really cold atnight. but hot in the afternoon. At school im always cold.
I forgot to tell you things here are alot more like canada then i though they would be.. i thought i would be so dumbfounded by everything.. but really it's a lot a like.. But here there are gates around everything. Even the school. The class rooms doors open to the outside of the school. The hall ways are outside it's reall neat. and it's much more hilly. There are mountains here!

so far amazing!
I love it here so much! It is so beautiful. My host family is so nice and they are just such amazing people. I went to a BBQ the other day. It was fun. it was at my host grand parents.. they live in a resort so Arina took me around the resort and to the beach. The sand was so fine i loved it very much! My feet would sink into the sand.. it was almost like quick sand..
Yesterday i went exploring around Lagoa.. it was so beautiful! It's a much bigger city than my own in canada. I went to the park also.. it was so fun There was this spiny thing and i think they should have them in canada!
my littlest host brother and i played a game this morning.. i didn't really understand it all i know is he would always send my men back to home. and he would yell at me and say VAI VAI (which i learned means GO!) ahah but i also learned to count :D
He has been taching me a lot with out even knowing it. He talks and talks to me and doesn't really care that i don't answer when he asks me questions.
Arina took me to the beach today It was nice and peaceful. I seen so many new animal.. there was these shells that ran into the sand and this sucker thing (no idea what it was called but it sure was neat) and i also seen a stingray egg. i think.
I baught some havaianas (sandals) they are yellow with a small brazil flag. :D

I ate the greatest thing in my life, Crapes with hambuger and sause and rice.. SO GOOD!!
anywho.. bye for now

And so it begans
Well at 4 o'clock on friday my journy began and we (my family and i) set off to the airport. We stoped at a resturant on the way and i got really sad and the waiter forgot my food and i was crying (not because i didn't have food) but anywho she thought i was crying because of her and she felt really bad!
We get to the airport and check my luggage in I didn't have to pay for the one i thought was over weight because it was just under :D :D.. So i was saying goodbye to my family and we were all crying! mom later told me she and sam cryed all the way home. I got to my gate and stoped crying. I was excited for my new journey! well i was waiting for my plane and it turns out they changed the gate # AHHHHHHH.. but i found it all okay no big deal. I board the plane and it's huge! a really nice brazilian is sitting next to me.. we didn't talk much but that was okay i tryed to sleep most of the way but sleeping while sitting is very hard! so when we landed i went and got my luagge because i had to go through brazilian customs. Then this guy who knew very little english was like need help and kept telling me to change my flight. So he told me were to go and everything turned out okay.. but he did make me pay him 10$. I ended up not changing my flight because i didn't want all the confusion. I was waiting for my flight and this girl sat down beside me she knew no english but we managed to find out that she is also going to Floripa :D so we boarded the plane together! but then had to say tchau because our seats were far apart.
That flight was short and when i got off i waited for my luagge and meet some one thats been to canada once i think.. i had no idea what he was saying. :P
Then i walk through the doors and i see my host family!!!!!!! it was such a relife! we all huged then went to the car that was parked 100000000 miles away i swear! well we got there and this is the coolest car ever! i've never seen one in canada like it! well then we go to a supermarket and i didn't really know what was going on ;p but being here for less than a day i still have no idea whats happening.
We got to the house. It's the cutest house! i love it. And my room is so awesome I just love everything about it.
To flush the toilet there is a button in the wall that you need to push if i wasn't told before i used it i would have no idea how to flush it! ahha
Well now i'm going to go and start my adventures. my little host brother just came in to my room and started talking to me. I feel so bad i have no idea whats he's saying! ahaha

Then this guy who knew very little english was like need help and kept telling me to change my flight. So he told me were to go and everything turned out okay.. but he did make me pay him 10$. I ended up not changing my flight because i didn't want all the confusion. I was waiting for my flight and this girl sat down beside me she knew no english but we managed to find out that she is also going to Floripa :D so we boarded the plane together! but then had to say tchau because our seats were far apart.
That flight was short and when i got off i waited for my luagge and meet some one thats been to canada once i think.. i had no idea what he was saying. :P
Then i walk through the doors and i see my host family!!!!!!! it was such a relife! we all huged then went to the car that was parked 100000000 miles away i swear! well we got there and this is the coolest car ever! i've never seen one in canada like it! well then we go to a supermarket and i didn't really know what was going on ;p but being here for less than a day i still have no idea whats happening.
We got to the house. It's the cutest house! i love it. And my room is so awesome I just love everything about it.
To flush the toilet there is a button in the wall that you need to push if i wasn't told before i used it i would have no idea how to flush it! ahha
Well now i'm going to go and start my adventures. my little host brother just came in to my room and started talking to me. I feel so bad i have no idea whats he's saying! ahaha

24 hours before departur.
So far I've
-finishes all my packing and locked my suit cases.
-Made my sister cry a total of 4 time and laughed at her!
Samantha (my sister) is crying and telling me she doesn't want me to go.. too bad :D i want to. I'll miss her but I'm still going
My mom is trying to dance. I have no idea why..
We played the card game golf :D it was fun.. Sam still doesn't want me to go...
i don't know if she's laughing or crying.. i don't even know if I'm laughing or crying.. It STILL hasn't hit me! it all still seems like a really amazing dream.

VISAAAAAA :D
So I've just received my visa in the mail.. one of the most exciting moments in my life.
I called the travel agent right away maybe I'll be leaving Friday YAY!!
I woke up this morning and pinched my arm because i thought i was having a dream. I can't be live this is all really happening. This is so amazing! soon i will be on a plane to Brazil! YAY!
Here is my flight On friday!

So i leave at 11:30 and sleep all the way there (hopefully)

zoom...zoom..zoom
Today i went to a rotary meeting and i met the inbound exchange student from japan. Her English is much better than what my Portuguese is. She seems nice. Today i sat at a new table and met some pretty awesome people. It's amazing how small the world really is.
By the way, Rotarian have some of the most interesting stories :D
When i got home i checked the status of my visa and it said that it has been sent so i should have it very soon, :D
SO EXCITED!!!!!
and nervous but there is more excitement.

Almost there!
So i was just checking the status of my visa and it say it has just been Authorized :D this makes me so happy!
It should be sent out to me very soon! hopefully by next the end of next week i will be on a plane to Brazil. :D
I can't wait!

ready..... set..... still struck in Canada
So I've got everything packed i just need a few last minute things that i will pack when i find out my flight date. Which i still am unsure about.
I emailed my host club :D and received a email back :D they seem excited to meet me :D
I went to my neighbors cottage yesterday for the night. The lake was so nice and peaceful it was nice to get away from all the commotion at home.
There is a lot of chaos at my house. With my brother moving out for university and me leaving for a year.
Did you know us exchange students are only allowed two suit cases under 50 pounds? well i have both mine full. One is about 10 pounds over weight. :S honestly how are you suppose to pack one year worth of stuff into that little? i know i will buy lots of stuff in Brasil, but still! it's not that much room!
I'm one of the last exchange students in my district to leave on exchange :( oh well i will get to leave very soon!
There is a new exchange student that just arrived at my sponsor club. i haven't met her but i hope to!
I would like to tell you about what it's like in the weeks before you leave for a whole new country,.. Some moments you are so excited and want to leave right away, at other times it hits you and you become scared and nervous and think how did you get your self into this? Sometimes you can't imagine how you could possibly leave your family for a whole year! But the best part of all is when you think of all the doors and opportunities you've just made for your self. You think of all the people you will meet and all the places you will see, and all the memories you will make, and all the changes you will get. You think about if you never thought of taking the first step and convincing yourself that you can really do this you ARE really doing this. You think of how lucky you are.
I'm one of billions of people in the world. One of 8 000 kids that are doing a rotary exchange. That isn't many people when you think about it. I believe I'm the luckiest person on the planet! I'm so grateful for this opportunity. Thank you everyone that's involved!

things are looking up :D
So I received the papers i needed and i faxed them to my aunt. My aunt on Friday took them to the embassy and she was helped by a much nicer lady. My visa was accepted and she is trying to have them back to me by the 3rd of September, I've started packing.. well I'm almost done packing. I think my suit case is over weight, :S oh no.
I can't wait to leave to brazil. It is all happening so fast.
Keith leaves for school soon. Hope he can still make it to the airport with me.

what an eventful day.
We get up at 4 a,m and leave for Toronto. i sleep most of the way.. The day is looking good. We get there or so we think. First we are in the wrong end of the st.. we are at the East end insted of west.. we already payed $ 15 for parking. but we got to use the washroom. we jump back in the car and drive down to the right end witch turns out to be only a few blocks away. then we go to the bank located right beside the consulte, We then go and wait in line. We were the first ones there! yay! when it opens this guy asks me for a few thing i give him them. Then he tells me to sit and this girl ask me over and she starts yelling at me because i didn't give him the documents. but he did NOT aask for them. Them i go sit and it happens over again but this time they say i need a letter from the school saying that i start school on this date and end on this date. so Mom calls importan people. I'm full out crying by this point. I was FREACKING OUT! no idea what was going to happen. And they weren't really helpful. in the end we didn't get to apply but i left the papers in toronto with my aunt so she can drop them off. so we dont have to drive back in to toronto. we had a nice dinner with my aunt and i hung out with my cousins for a bit.
Things i learned today:
-Check the sreet to see if it's East or West.
-Never cry in front of mom when she is trying to leave a message
-I never want to work at an embassy or consulet
-Shopping makes things better :D

GREAT NEWS!
Oii
So i was hoping my papers would come yesterday.. i ran out to the mailbox right after the mail lady left. But no papers:( But today i went to the beach and had a wonderful day. When i got home my day only got better. My papers are here! YAY
I looked everything over got copies of everything. Tomorrow i leave for Toronto at 4 a.m good thing I'm not the driver and i can sleep on the way there. In Toronto i will apply for my visa.. Ii really hope it all goes smoothly.
I was going to email my host club.. but one little problem. i don't think i can read their email address. :s I'll keep trying. :D
I'm so very excited to get my papers. but man am i ever getting nervous. I am leaving so soon.. what do i do?

GOOD NEWS!
So I've just heard the news that my papers are in Staford! and they should arrive to me in a couple days tops.
When i got the news i was so nervous.. Oh my,, I'm leaving Canada for a year! AHHH
this is going to be the time of my life.
I made copies of everything that i thought i could possibly need. I think this is all really happening.
I'M SO EXCITED
I have about a suit case and a half of stuff packed.. none of which is clothes :S
I hope it all fits in the end.. we'll see.
I'm trying to get everything ready to go apply for my visa.. I've heard it shouldn't take long for them to get it back to me. I really can't wait to leave!

Where are my papers!!
Oii
So another exchange student has left for Brazil.. I'm still waiting for my papers. I am talking to an exchange student in Floripa right now.. I'm so jealous. It loos like she is having fun :D i bet i will too.
so when people
"ask me are you excited?"
I answer YES! Ive never been so excited in my life.
"Are you scared?"
Yes. Still not knowing when i leave is scary! and going somewhere new without the same comfort of home, and me breaking out of my shell is very scary. I can't wait to see how things play out.
"when do you leave?"
I have no idea. Hopefully by the end of August. I don't have my guarantee forms yet and that means I still can't apply for my Visa and I can't get my plane ticket yet. I can't wait to meet my Brazilian family though!
I'm getting business cards made.. I can't wait until they are done :D this is gonna be so cool.
Next week I'm hoping to get my papers and apply for my visa! we'll see how it goes.

what do I really know?

so i was once asked by a Brazilian amigo what i knew about Brazil. Not wanting to offend him i didn't really say what i knew. then i thought more about it. What do i really know.. Turns out not much at all! i did write a 13 page essay about it but i forget most of it. so I'm going to say some random things that the Internet told me. Please don't hate me if the facts are wrong which is most likely.
-Brazil is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
-Brazil is much hotter than Canada!
-It does get cold in the south.
-Brazil's capital is Brasilia
-Brazil's population: 186,112,794 Canada's population: 33,311,400
-Brazil is the 5th largest country in the world.
-Brazil touches all the countries in south America except for Chile and Ecuador.
-Brazil and Canada were in dispute in 2000 due to Canada not wanting Brazilian beef for fear of mad cow disease, even though no cases were found.
-Official language of Brazil is Portuguese.
-Brazilian money is called Reals (and is some of the coolest money i've ever seen :D)
-Brazil is a large exporter of coffee.
-Population of Floripa (Florianopolis) is 400, 000
-Brazil became independent from Portugal on September 7th 1822.
-Brazil owns 1/3 of the worlds Amazon, and the largest Amazon river is found in Brazil

it's now or never.
i have no idea why i chose that for the title. but it sounded fitting to me. i don't think it has anything to do with what I'm about to write though. i don't even know what I'm about to write to tell you the truth.
So.. this week i babysat. it was fun. the kids 3 and 6 months keep me on my toes and they take my mind off my papers taking so long to get here!
oh i talked to a Brazilian on Skye with the microphone.. It was fun! we talked English though my Portuguese isn't that good.. YET! i did say some words in Portuguese but my pronunciation was off :S
I just finished my scrapbook that I've been working on.. it's of all my friends! i think im going to take it with me to Brazil.
Another exchange student is on their way to Brazil :( can't wait until that's me!
I was browsing the web when i seen something about Brazil. i clicked on it and it was breaking news. IT SNOWED IN BRAZIL! i bet you don't think that's a big deal.. but trust me it is! there was snow in the state that I'm going to. :D looks like i might need pants after all ahahah..
Joline is home in 9 days! holy! can't wait!
I'm going to tell you a little bit about exchange students. We make pins some exchange students just buy them, but no not me.. I'm not that smart. so now I'm stuck making more pins. i had 500 then i went to grand rapids, and now i have about 200.. i hope i can make more before i go to Brazil! I'm stick of making them though. i need ideas! so if you want to help me! just tell me! I'll take all the help i can get! ahah.
any who (I know supposedly it's a Canadian thing to say.)
I really do think this exchange will help me find out who i am! i have no idea. people always ask me what i want to do with my life, or what i want to be when i grow old. I never have a good answer, i just say something like "well maybe someday I'll find out" i think.. that year to find out is here! IT'S NOW OR NEVER :D looks like the title did fit! XD

can't sleep..
time seems like it's slowing down... I'm not to sure if that's a good thing or bad. i want it too seed up so i can get my forms sooner.
It's late but i can't sleep and no on is on msn or facebook.. which i believe I'm addicted too.. I'm also addicted to my email. I check it way too often! so if you ever are board and want something to do email me! rachelmariesmith.94@gmail.com i will most likely email you back pretty fast.. I'm so busy now a days but i always seem to find time for facebook. which i believe is a bad thing.

I'm so happy to say that i have a friend who did a work and change exchange to Quebec for 6 weeks in the summer.. she will be getting back on the 14th. I can't wait to hear all about it! we have been staying in touch via e-mail and the stories she tells me are so funny, and i can't wait to be the one telling the stories!

I'm so happy to say that i have a friend who did a work and change exchange to Quebec for 6 weeks in the summer.. she will be getting back on the 14th. I can't wait to hear all about it! we have been staying in touch via e-mail and the stories she tells me are so funny, and i can't wait to be the one telling the stories!
this is a once in a life time chance and i can't believe i get to experience it! Rotary is to thank for this one! MUITO ORIGADA rotary! i can't even thank you enough for this opportunity!

I have just heard the news that my papers are finally being sent from Brazil! I should get them soon. I'm so excited and happy right now! I'll let you know as soon as i get them

now it's waiting time
So a lot has happened since the last post.
Jannek went back to Germany.
I still haven't heard anything about my papers! this is really testing me, I hope evrything works out in the end.. we'll just have to wait and see.
and me and my friends are spacing apart.
It seems as if they don't like me anymore and are against me. We keep fighting over every little stupid thing. truly i don't know if our friendship can last much longer. and a year apart might kill it. Not all my friends are like this. Some are very happy for me and love to hear me talk about my exchange. I'm keeping busy and trying to find time for everyone before i go.. i just wish i knew when that was.
I have one suit case packed and it's all of gifts for my host family's... it's about 7 or 8 pounds over weight :S
I've been so busy with other people i just want time for myself. I haven't been sleeping lots I'm getting nervous for this exchange. It still hasn't hit me that I'll be going on exchange for a year to an island in Brazil! It's hard to sleep because I'm staying up later and getting up at the same time. i just can't find enough time in the day! ahhh
I still need to make pins :S
Yesterday was my host sister's, Camile, Birthday :D She just turned 17 HAPPY BIRTHDAY :D
I've started a Scrapbook with the help of Ashley :D It's coming along good I love it! I'll bring it to Brazil with me to show people there what my friends and town and Canada are like :D

This week has been so busy!
SO it all started on Monday I went to a Rotary meeting then Jannek, the exchange student from Germany, came over and we went to Rock Glen, then we made a water slide. It was a huge fail. I asked him if he wanted schnitzel and if he knew what that was. He said "yes that's German" Embarrassing.
I had a going away party. it was fun. I got caked in the face. We had a water balloon fight. And slept in tents. It was a bitter sweet moment when people started to leave. I will miss them all so much next year, but this shows it's going to be okay. I don't know how i just have a feeling.
Then i had Megan's Birthday. It was great. I got to see people again, but i learned something very import an. GET YOUR SLEEP BEFORE YOU GO TO A PARTY. They thought it would be funny to put wiped cream in my face when i was sleeping. It was pretty funny. I was glad i got the chance to do it back to them.
I also found out this week that my guarantee forms haven't been sent from Brazil D:
It's making me very very worried. I hope it gets sent soon. School starts on August 2nd.

another day another post
Olaa, again. i don't really know how these blogs work, but I'll tell you whats happening...
I forgot to tell you about grand rapids last time, It was one of the funnest weekends I've ever experienced. i met so many people from all different walks of life. Everybody was so nice. I met people from Brazil people going to Brazil, and people who went to Brazil.
Last week i met with an exchange student who went to Brazil. He had such a nice time i hope my time there is just a rich. He was very nice and thought me so much.. Always remember to face the problem and don't leave it until it's to late.
Always remember to never flush toilet paper down the toilet. It goes in the garbage.
Yesterday morning i helped out my rotary club with their annual pancake breakfast. It was fun but i had to get up very early. I also got to watch some of the boats go by..

First blog!
Hello
So I'll tell you a little about myself. My name's Rachel Smith. I'm from Ontario Canada! and I'm about to leave for a year aboard. Brazil is my destination. Before it was Thailand but everyone going to Thailand got redirected because of the political situation. and all the protesting that was happening.
A couple of weeks ago i was contacted by my first Brazilian host family.
I will have two sisters one that just got back from the USA where she was on an exchange. Her name is Arina. My other host sister is Camile and she will be going to the USA sometime after i arrive in Brazil. Ariana is 18 and Camile is almost 17.
I'll have two brothers Antonio, 14 years old, and Sebastien who is almost 5.
I can't wait to meet them all. My host dad owns a Bio shop. (an organic shop) while my host mom is an art-therapist.
I will be going to Florianopolis Brazil. That is an Island in the south of Brazil. When I'm there i will be in the 2nd year of high school. I really hope to learn to surf and sand board.
